Coffee. Something that many people drink on a daily basis. Why is it that we love coffee so much? Is it the flavorful taste? Is it the energy boost that we get afterward? Is it just habit?
Let’s say you are buying coffee from a local cafe. Do you ever take a moment to really think about where your money is going and how it will be used? Unlikely. Nowadays it is very easy for people to throw money at products or brands without really thinking about it.
One thing that many coffee businesses lack is a cause. The way that coffee is sold now is like a vending machine. We buy, our money is given to businesses who then go on to use that money for creating more of the same products. There is not a soul to the business, a real authentic reason for why the businesses are selling coffee other than to make money.
At Soldadera Coffee, we wanted customers to have a reason to drink coffee other than just the unique taste and caffeine boost. We wanted to be a part of something bigger. We wanted people to use their money as a tool for good, not just mindless consumption. We wanted to cater to people's need to drink coffee while also helping them make a worthwhile change in the community. We wanted to help solve problems in our community. Our focus revolved around this following question: Who did we see in our community that was at a disadvantage who we could help? The answer was clear. It was women.
It is no real surprise that women are paid less than men. According to AAUW, in the year 2015 women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 80 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 20 percent. Women of color were paid even less than 80 percent.
Soldadera’s goal is to bring awareness to women’s economic inequality through our unique branding and drinks through partnerships, social events, and donations.Follow us on social media to learn more about Soldadera and become part of the solution.
