What comes to your mind when you think of the term Love Warrior? This term sounds like two oppositional forces- love and warrior. It doesn’t make sense to put those two words together. One woman by the name of Glennon Doyle Melton coined the term Love Warrior in her memoir which made the Oprah’s Book Club list and the New York Times Bestseller list this past year.
Glennon has led an interesting life full of ups and downs. She became a bulimic at a very young age and an alcoholic in adulthood. She lived in addiction for a long time until a life-changing event (motherhood) took her on a new path. Glennon is a brave woman who is not afraid to show her past, both the beautiful and the brutal, to the world.
This past year especially, Glennon has been active in the United States through bringing awareness the the issues regarding women’s rights and the problems that women face in society to this day. Glennon is an inspiration to many women in the United States today.Glennon believes that love will solve all problems, whether it’s love for each other or self-love.
Here are some of our favorite quotes by Glennon Doyle Melton:
- “The only meaningful thing we can offer one another is love. Not advice, not questions about our choices, not suggestions for the future, just love.”
- “We know what the world wants from us. We know we must decide whether to stay small, quiet, and uncomplicated or allow ourselves to grow as big, loud, and complex as we were made to be. Every girl must decide whether to be true to herself or true to the world. Every girl must decide whether to settle for adoration or fight for love.”
- “If you feel something calling you to dance or write or paint or sing, please refuse to worry about whether you’re good enough. Just do it. Be generous. Offer a gift to the world that no one else can offer: yourself.”
