Continuing our Meet your farmer series for Hispanic Heritage Month, we'd like to introduce you to a grower and a mother who is keeping her community strong with her family farm.
Evelyn wasn’t born into the coffee world, but rather stumbled into it thanks to that funny little thing called love.
The man who would become her husband was in charge of medium sized production and in the process of purchasing his own land to start cultivating. Evelyn joined him in the endeavor, and they started building their lives together around the growth of their farm.
When their production started to take hold, they also started their family, and Evelyn took a break to focus on her kids. Now that her children are grown and on their own paths, Evelyn has returned to the fields, focusing on strengthening the farm as a way to leave a legacy for her family.
She is particularly fond of Natural processing strategies and in 2023, she focused on maintaining a separate portion of the variety called Pacamara so it could be processed as a special microlot.
She is also a strong business woman, always fighting for what is fair for her family and thriving in opportunities to share stories.
Harvest time is her favorite time of the year, but in past years it has been difficult as more and more of her community is migrating out of the area.
